The Institute of Astrophysics of the Canary Islands (IAC) postdoctoral fellowships is open for international students all except EU. These fellowships are available for pursuing postdoctoral research in the areas of astrophysics: solar physics, planetary systems, stellar and interstellar physics, galactic formation and evolution, and cosmology and astroparticles.

The aims of postdoctoral fellowships are to promote the enhancement of  The Institute of Astrophysics by supporting research in Astrophysics and Astrofísica.

The Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (IAC) is an astrophysical research institute located in the Canary Islands. The IAC’s research programme includes astrophysical research and technological development projects. The IAC has devoted much energy to developing technology for the design and construction of a large 10.4-meter diameter telescope,

Degree Level: These fellowships are available for pursuing postdoctoral research.

Available Subject: Research topics at the IAC include most areas of astrophysics: solar physics, planetary systems, stellar and interstellar physics, galactic formation and evolution, and cosmology and astroparticles.

Scholarship Benefits: The gross annual salary is 33,215 Euros, subject to up to 20% tax and Social Security deductions (depending on the personal situation of the candidate). Medical insurance under the Spanish National Health Service will be provided for the candidate and will also cover the spouse or registered partner (de facto partner) and children (if relevant).

Number of Scholarships: There are two fellowships available.

Eligibility: The following criteria must be met in order for applicants to be eligible for these fellowships:

  • Applicants must have obtained a PhD degree in Astrophysics or Physics, within the application deadline, May 31, 2017, and no more than seven years prior to this deadline (May 31, 2010). A copy of the degree or corresponding stamped certificate (issued by the University where the degree was obtained), must be included.  If the applicant has not completed the PhD degree within the application deadline, will not be considered.

  • Applicants who are not citizen of a country belonging to the European Union are invited to apply for this position,


Eligible Nationalities: Applicants from all around the world except EU can apply for these fellowships.
