Southeast Asian Advocacy Fellowship Program on Drug Policy Reform is open to applicants of Philippines, Myanmar, Indonesia, Thailand, China, and Cambodia. These fellowships are granted for pursuing research in the field of Drug policy reform

The aim of the fellowship is to increase the understanding of international drug policy reform issues, to improve their advocacy skills, and to enhance their capacity in working with the media on drug policy.

The Transnational Institute (TNI) is a transnational alternative policy group and “network of scholar-activists”’ that produces critical research oriented toward enhancing democracy, social justice, and ecological sustainability. TNI’s research seeks to challenge existing corporate priorities and state policies and advocate for alternative globalization policies that are more sustainable, just and democratic.

Degree Level: These fellowships are available for pursuing research.

Available Subject: These fellowships are awarded in the subject of Drug policy reform.

Scholarship Benefits: The fellowship grants will cover travel, lodging, and meals.

Numbers of Scholarships: Four fellowships are available.

Eligibility: Applicants must meet the following area for these fellowships:

  • Successful candidates will have a track-record of public engagement in human rights, law, or relevant government experience. Ideally their work should intersect with the issue of drug policy and/or human rights. Priority will be given to these applicants. However we also welcome applications from those working in drug policy reform or another relevant field (e.g. public health) at the local, national and international levels.

  • Please note that before receiving the fellowship, finalists will be asked to present a letter from their employer agreeing to their two-week participation in the course.

  • We are looking for candidates from the following countries: The Philippines, Myanmar, Indonesia, Thailand, China and Cambodia.

  • Applicants must have the strong command of the English language to participate in the course.


Eligible Nationalities: Applicants of Philippines, Myanmar, Indonesia, Thailand, China, and Cambodia can apply for the fellowship.
