Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in Theoretical High-Energy Physics 2015

Position as postdoctoral research fellow is available at the Department of Physics, University of Oslo, under the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences. The fellowship period is 2 years, with a starting date in fall 2015 (pending funding from The Research Council of Norway), and no later than 01.11.2015. The application deadline is 1 December, 2014.

  • Fellowship is awarded in Theoretical High-Energy Physics at University of Oslo.

  • Fellowship is available for pursuing postdoctoral research programme at University of Oslo.

  • University of Oslo, Norway is providing these Fellowship.

Accreditation: University of Oslo is an accredited university. University of Oslo is accredited by the EUA.

Eligibility:
-
The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences has a strategic ambition of being a leading research faculty. Candidates for the announced position will therefore be selected in accordance with this, and expected to be in the upper segment of their class with respect to academic credentials.
-The position formally requires a PhD (theses submitted latest 3 months before the start of the position) or other corresponding education equivalent to a Norwegian doctoral degree in science.
-The postdoctoral position is in theoretical/ phenomenological high-energy particle physics. The successful candidate must have a strong research background in LHC phenomenology, preferably with a focus on physics beyond the standard model. Demonstrated familiarity with mono-X searches will constitute an advantage. Good programming skills and experience with relevant software, as well as familiarity with high-performance computing, will be further advantages.
-The candidate will interact closely with Master and PhD students, and other post-doctoral researchers in the group. Thus, collaborative abilities are also important.
-The main purpose of post-doctoral research fellowships is to qualify researchers for work in top academic positions within their disciplines.

  • Norwegian and international students can apply for this research fellowship.

  •  The nature of the cosmological dark matter is one of the greatest unsolved puzzles in fundamental physics. The successful candidate will investigate strategies for the detection of dark matter at the LHC via mono-X searches. This position is part of a joint project between the theoretical high-energy groups at the University of Bergen (lead by Jörn Kersten) and the University of Oslo (in particular Torsten Bringmann and Are Raklev).

  • The fellowship period is 2 years, with a starting date in fall 2015 (pending funding from The Research Council of Norway), and no later than 01.11.2015.

  • The mode of applying is online. The application must include:

  • -Application letter
-CV (summarizing education, positions, scientific awards and achievements, pedagogical experience, administrative experience and other qualifying activity)
    -A complete list of publications
-A scientific research plan (maximum 4 pages)
-Copies of educational certificates and transcript of records
-Foreign applicants are advised to attach an explanation of their University’s grading system. Please remember that all documents should be in English or a Scandinavian language. Applications with documents missing will not be considered further. Original documentation may be requested.
