Scholarship Description: The Department of Politics and International Relations at the University of Westminster is pleased to offer studentships for prospective PhD students, starting in September 2018.

Scholarship Provider: The University of Westminster is a public university in London, United Kingdom. Its antecedent institution, the Royal Polytechnic Institution, was founded in 1838 and was the first polytechnic institution in the UK.

Applicants whose secondary-level education has not been conducted in the medium of English should also demonstrate evidence of appropriate English language proficiency, normally defined as an IELTS score of 6.5 overall, with no less than 6.0 in any of the individual elements.

Degree Level: Scholarships are available for pursuing PhD programme.

Available Subject: Scholarships are awarded in the field of Politics and International Relations.

Scholarship Benefits: 
One fee waiver (Home/EU rate Applications are invited for the following awards which are tenable for up to three years for full-time study:) and £16,000 per year for three years.
Up to two fee waivers (Home/EU rate) and £5,000 per year for three years.

Number of Scholarships: Total three scholarships are available.

Eligible Nationalities: Citizens of all nationalities are eligible to apply.

Eligibility Criteria: Candidates should normally have a minimum classification of a 2.1 in their BA, or equivalent, and preferably a Masters degree.

Application Procedure:

University will use the national online applications system, UKPASS for all research degree applications. To make your application for an MPhil/PhD please work through the following steps:

  • Check that you meet the entry criteria

  • Check that the Faculty can provide supervision in your research area. If you have not done so yet, please review the research areas. You will be asked to confirm this in your UKPASS application form

  • Consider your funding options – are there any Studentship or Scholarships available to you or will you have to be applying as a self-funded student?

  • What documents you will be required to upload with your UKPASS application:
    a) Research proposal of between 2,000 and 3,500 words (four to seven pages) in length. University recommends that you follow guidance on writing a research proposal. Please note we will not be able to consider your application if you do not include your research proposal. (For a PhD by Publication, the proposal should be made using the same form, but not exceed 2,000 words.)

  • b) Scanned copies of all your relevant qualification certificates and transcripts(if your award is pending, please upload the transcript of the modules already undertaken).

  • c) If your secondary level education has not been conducted in the medium of English, you should also demonstrate evidence of appropriate English language proficiency, for example, IELTS or TOEFL certificates.

  • d) 2 academic references. Please note that it is your responsibility to contact your referees and arrange for a reference letter to be provided, whether by upload to UKPASS, emailed or posted.
