The University of Duisburg-Essen and the Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf is offering 12 PhD positions in Germany- E 13 TV-L, 65 % and 2 MD/PhD positions – E13 TV-L, within  the DFG-funded Research Training Group 1949 (GRK 1949).

The focus of Research Training Group Immune Response in Infectious Diseases – Regulation between Innate and Adaptive Immunity lies on the interaction between innate and adaptive immunity in infectious diseases.

This DFG funding scheme has been established to qualify doctoral researchers within the framework of a focused research program and a structured training strategy.

Degree Level: Positions are available for pursuing PhD programme.

Available Subject: Positions are awarded in the fields of Infectious diseases.

Scholarship Benefits: The duration of the PhD or MD/PhD position will be up to three years max. The salary is in accordance with the German public service salary scale (PhD: TV-L E 13, 65%), (MD/PhD: TV-L E 13, 90 %).

Eligibility: University expect

• Excellent graduation in the fields of medical biology, biology, medicine, biochemistry, or biotechnology (Master or equivalent)


• Proven interest in one or more of the above-indicated research fields


• Highly motivated and committed


• Interested in participating actively in the program of the RTG


• Disposed to work with laboratory animals (depending on the project)


• Very good written and spoken English skills
