Newcastle University is pleased to offer Kidney Research UK PhD Studentship for UK/EU and international applicants. The successful applicant will work on the research entitle ‘Immuno-nephrology: Investigating the trigger events in atypical haemolytic ureamic syndrome using comparative models’ under the supervision of Dr Kevin J Marchbank and Professor David Kavanagh.


The university is governed by a number of statutory bodies. The Executive Board comprises the senior management team that has oversight of the day-to-day running of the University.

Applicants have been assessed as international/overseas for fees purposes, and are wholly or partially self-financing. Applicants need a good level of English language to study at Newcastle University. They’ll need to provide a recognised English language test or qualification unless you’re exempt. This is usually a test score of IELTS 6.5 or equivalent, but requirements can vary between IELTS 6.0 to 8.0. All students need at least 5.5 in each sub-skill, or equivalent.

Scholarship Benefits: 100% of UK/EU tuition fees paid and annual living expenses of £14,057 (full award). Successful international candidates will be required to make up the difference between the UK/EU fees and international fees.


Eligibility Criteria: The following criteria must be met in order for applicants to be eligible for scholarship:




  • You must have, or expect to achieve, at least a 2:1 in a Biological Sciences (Immunology and Biochemistry). Knowledge of comparative modelling and Immunology would be helpful for progression in the project.

  • This award is available to UK/EU and international applicants. If English is not your first language, you must have IELTS 7 with at least 6.5 in the written component, or equivalent.
