Scholarship Description
Since 2011, St Antony’s College at the University of Oxford, in partnership with the international integrated energy company Eni, has offered students from selected African countries the opportunity to study for a fully funded Master's degree.

This will allow St Antony’s to admit some of the best African students irrespective of means and will add immeasurably to the diverse and intellectual character of the College. This is part of a joint initiative between Eni & St Antony’s College to invest in and strengthen African leadership.



Oxford-University
Eligibility
The scholarships are open to applicants who are ordinarily resident in Angola, Ghana, Libya, Mozambique or Nigeria.



Preference will be given to applicants whose first degree is from an African university.

To receive the Scholarship, candidates must satisfy any academic conditions placed by the University on their offers of admission, including providing evidence of their linguistic competence if English is not their first language.

Selection criteria
The scholarships will be awarded on the basis of both academic merit and potential, and financial need. Preference will be given to applicants who have clear ambitions to use their accumulated learning to benefit their home country after graduation.

Consideration will be given to qualified students who can demonstrate that they do not otherwise have the financial means to continue their studies at Oxford.

Eligible groups
Nationals of Angola, Ghana, Libya, Mozambique and Nigeria. The programme aims to appoint one scholar from each country.

Applicants may be from any African university in Angola, Ghana, Libya, Mozambique or Nigeria.

Fields of study
St Antony’s College specializes in international relations, politics, economics, history and anthropology. Eni Scholars will be drawn from a pool of applicants holding conditional offers of admission to the following one or two year taught Master’s programmes:

1 year Master’s courses


  • MSc African Studies

  • MSc Economics & Social History

  • MSc Economics for Development

  • MSc Global Governance & Diplomacy



2 year Master’s courses




  • MPhil Development Studies

  • MPhil Economic & Social History

  • MPhil Economics

  • MPhil Modern Middle Eastern Studies

  • MPhil International Relations



3 year Doctoral course




  • DPhil International Development

Number of awards
Five (5) scholarships will be awarded: one winner from each of the countries

Sponsorship duration
The whole duration of the programme - 1, 2 or 3 year programmes. Continued funding of any course supported by an Eni Scholarship is subject to satisfactory academic progress and appropriate personal conduct.

If your scholarship is offered for a course lasting more than one year, the continuation of your scholarship each year is subject to an annual renewal process based upon satisfactory academic progress.

Scholarship benefits
100% (fully-funded) of university and college fees, and an annual grant for living costs (the rate was £14,057 for 12 month courses and £10,543 for 9 month courses in 2015/16 - please note that the 2016/17 figure will be updated soon). The stipend for courses with different durations will be adjusted accordingly.

The scholarship also covers one economy return airfare from your home country to the UK at the start and end of your course.

St Antony’s and Eni are equally keen to provide encouragement and where possible, structured incentives for Eni Scholars to continue their studies or find useful employment back in their home country after graduating from Oxford. Discussions about this are on-going and scholars will be informed of relevant contacts and partnerships as they emerge.

Method of Application
In order to be considered for this scholarship:


  1. Apply online to the University of Oxford for one of the eligible courses:

    • you must submit your application for graduate study by the announced deadline (see below) and

    • you must have secured a conditional or unconditional place on your chosen programme of study by the expected final decision date (18 March 2016).



  2. Once you have applied to the University, you must complete the Eni scholarship application form and send it to the Assistant College Registrar.

DEADLINES:
Deadline for submission of graduate course application to the University of Oxford is 6 or 22 January 2016 (depending on your course); while deadline for the Eni scholarship application is 12 noon, UK time on Friday, 8 April 2016.

Scholarship decisions will be communicated to all applicants by email on or before 30 April 2016.
