Scholarship Description: Applicants are invited for Doctoral Studentship to undertake a data science focused PhD in a multidisciplinary environment. The studentship is available for home/EU and inter national students.

The aim of the studentship is seeking highly motivated and talented individuals to embark on a career in the rapidly emerging field of data science.

About University: The Alan Turing Institute is the United Kingdom national institute for data sciences, founded in 2015. It is named after Alan Turing, the British mathematician and computing pioneer.

Degree Level: Studentship is available to pursue Doctoral programme.

Available Subject: Studentship is awarded to undertake a data science focused PhD in a multidisciplinary environment.

Scholarship Benefits: Our studentships include a generous tax-free stipend of £20,500 per annum, a travel allowance and tuition fees for a period of 3.5 years.

Eligible Nationalities: Home/EU and international students are eligible to apply the studentship

 

Entrance Requirements: Applicants must be graduates.

Application Procedure:



  • Stage 1: Candidate application (Deadline: 12:00 GMT 30 November 2017)

  • Candidates apply via an online application system and may select up to three supervisors they are interested in studying with from across the Institute’s partner universities.

  • Candidates will need a minimum of 2 references.

  • Stage 2: Application triage

  • Applications are reviewed by the Institute for completeness, accuracy and eligibility.

  • Candidates who fail to meet the award criteria will not be shortlisted.

  • Stage 3: Supervisor shortlisting

  • Supervisors will receive applications of candidates interested in studying with them (if the application has passed the initial review above). Applications will include the names of all supervisors selected by the candidate.

  • Supervisors will select candidates they wish to interview and contact them directly to arrange an in-person, telephone or Skype interview to discuss possible projects.

  • If a supervisor wishes to support a student for further consideration by the Institute, they will need to submit a supporting statement, and a project proposal jointly written with the candidate, to the Institute.

  • Where a student is short-listed by multiple supervisors, the student is advised to speak to supervisors about possible co-supervision. A candidate may only be supported by one supervisor (or co-supervised on one project).

  • If you do not hear from your proposed supervisor(s) by 22 January 2018, you may assume that your application has been unsuccessful.

  • Stage 4: Paper-based panel review meeting

  • Applications will be reviewed by panels of recruiting supervisors and partner university and Institute staff.

  • Shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview early February 2018.

  • Stage 5: Interviews (to be held at The Alan Turing Institute, London)

  • Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend a 2-day interview programme which will take place at the Institute’s headquarters at the British Library on Tuesday 27 and Wednesday 28 February 2018.

  • Candidates will be expected to keep both days free. Further details will be provided if invited to interview.
