A position as a PhD research fellow is available to conduct research as part of theUniversity of Oslo Arctic Programs and the Faculty of Law Artic Program called Cold Pursuit. Norwegian and foreign applicants can apply for this fellowship.

Eligibility: 




  • The PhD candidate must hold a Norwegian master’s degree in law or a law degree at the same level.

  • The candidate must have received excellent grades.

  • The project language is English, and candidates should have an excellent command of English, written and spoken. The PhD thesis must be written in English. A good command of a Scandinavian language, or alternatively a willingness to learn during the fellowship period, is an advantage for working at the Faculty in Oslo but is not a condition for this position.

  • The candidate’s grades, previous works in legal science, professional and personal qualifications, and in particular the project outline will be taken into consideration in the evaluation of the applications.


Nationality: Norwegian and foreign applicants can apply for this fellowship.


College Admission Requirement


Entrance Requirement: The PhD candidate must hold a Norwegian master’s degree in law or a law degree at the same level.

  • Project outline (5–10 pages)

  • CV

  • Certified copies of certificates and diplomas with all grades. Foreign diplomas (master’s, bachelor’s, and the like) in languages other than English or a Scandinavian language must be provided in the original language as well as in an English or Scandinavian language translation.

  • An explanation of the foreign university’s grading system

  • A complete list of publications

  • A copy of the applicant’s master’s thesis, along with a maximum of 50 pages from other academic works that the applicant wishes to have considered by the evaluation committee. If the publications are written by more than one author, a declaration of authorship as well as the contribution(s) of the candidate should be submitted.
