This international project aims investigating and developing an Epi-surveillance knowledge system for neglected tropical diseases, which is able to gather and process biomedical data (EHR, images, scientific documents, knowledge databases,..), with the goal of providing: 1) expert medical recommendations; 2) treatment outcome monitoring, and 3) the generation of interactive clinical cases for educational purposes. A case study will be conducted to enhance the global control of Leishmaniasis, a major public health and veterinary problem that affects currently around 10 million people.
This project is part of EUROLEISH-NET (www.euroleish.net/, a Marie Sklodowska-Curie Innovative Training Network (MSC-ITN), which aims to promote scientific excellence for 15 PhD students in several complementary disciplines, from molecular science, to computer science and medicine.
The student will enrol a successful joint doctoral program in Computer Science, provided by the universities of Minho, Aveiro and Porto (www.map.edu.pt/i/home).
BMD is a SME that investigates and develops novel computational solutions for biomedicine (www.bmd-software.com).
