Scholarship Provider: The University of Edinburgh and Creative Scotland are on the lookout for prospective doctoral students to work together with us on an AHRC-funded PhD suggestion to help define the creative industries in Scotland. Applicants will be awarded up to £14,999.

Degree Level: Ph.D. program

Available Subject: Studentships are available for postgraduate master’s degree from an accredited institution in the UK or overseas.

Scholarship Benefits: £14,999

Eligible candidate’s entry to this Ph.D. program is aggressive, and frequently requires that applicants have the following minimum qualifications:

  • Normally a postgraduate master’s degree from an accredited institution in the UK or overseas (we accept applications from those still currently studying for masters, but any offer will be conditional on successful completion at the required standard).

  • Evidence of above-average academic achievement (more than 65% overall) and normally a postgraduate master’s dissertation with distinction (UK equivalent).

  • MBA or master’s students without a dissertation are welcome to apply and should normally provide evidence of distinction level work (UK equivalent).

  • Your official transcript and grading scheme must be provided when you submit your application.


Eligible Nationalities: Scholarships are available to students from the United Kingdom or the European

Entrance Requirements: Applicants should also submit a single Word file with:

  • A curriculum vitae (1 page)

  • A letter explaining your interest in the studentship and outlining your qualifications for it (3,000 to 5,000 words)

  • A brief cover note that includes your full contact details together with the names and contact details of two academic referees (1 page)


Application Procedure:

Application to the University of Edinburgh Business School’s Ph.D. program is during the University’s online postgraduate application system.

  • The applicant needs to specify Candace Jones as the lead supervisor and provide a 3,000-5,000 word research proposal for studying the definitions of creative industries, as outlined above.

  • Once submitted, the proposed dissertation will be reviewed by Professors Candace Jones and Dave O’Brien.

  • Ph.D. applications should be submitted online and the Word file emailed to phd@business-school.ed.ac.uk by no later than 12 noon on Friday 18th January 2019.

Note:

  • Applicants will be notified if they are being invited to interview by 21st December 2019.

  • Interviews will take place during the second week of January 2019, at either University of Edinburgh or via Skype for candidates unable to attend in person.

  • Your research proposal should respond to the aims of the CDA project outlined above and will be considered as a starting point for further discussion.
