UK : PhD Scholarship in Computer Science

A PhD scholarship is available to work with Dr. Manfred Lau at Lancaster University.  The scholarship is funded by Microsoft Research Cambridge, UK, and you will be co-supervised by researchers there.  The areas of research are in computer graphics, 3D modeling, human-computer interaction, and digital fabrication.

The three-year position is fully funded for UK or EU students (tuition fees + stipend of at least £15,500 per year plus annual increments), and includes a laptop bursary.  We welcome international applicants, but you will need to cover yourself the difference between the university overseas student fee and the UK/EU student fee.  If selected for the scholarship, you may also have a chance to attend a PhD summer school and to apply for an internship at Microsoft Research Cambridge.

The expected start date is in early 2014.  The search for applicants is ongoing until a suitable candidate is found.  Please apply early if interested.  The applicant should have a strong degree in computer science (or related area) and/or an appropriate Masters degree.  Previous research experience in one or more of the following areas is highly desirable:  computer graphics, 3D modeling, human-computer interaction, computational design, and digital fabrication.  Strong programming skills are required.

If you are interested, you are encouraged to contact Dr. Manfred Lau directly for informal discussions.  To apply, please send the following to m.lau@lancaster.ac.uk:

- CV (including research experiences and publications, if any)

- transcript(s) of your academic degrees

- brief cover letter (describing your background and interests)

You will be contacted if you are shortlisted.  We will then ask for two letters of recommendation, and may decide to interview potential candidates by telephone/Skype.

Application Deadline : 30 November 2013
